What is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon?

An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is a unique medical provider of Facial Cosmetic, Reconstructive and Oral Surgery. Many OMFS’s attend both medical and dental school in order to obtain a broad understanding of the facial region. This is followed by an internship in General Surgery and residency focused only on the facial region.

Dr. Guyette has additionally obtained extensive and ongoing training in Facial Cosmetic Surgery. We continually monitor new techniques and treatments and provide only those with proven track records and consistently good results.

Why should I have an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon perform my Facial Cosmetic Surgery?

There are now many well-trained surgeons from a variety of backgrounds who perform Facial Cosmetic Surgery. As with all endeavors, experience and training are the best determinants of good results. An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, with unique training and perspective, is an excellent choice to perform Facial Cosmetic Surgery.

What type of anesthesia is best for my surgery?

Safety and patient comfort are the two most important criteria used to determine the type of anesthesia used for surgical procedures. Minor procedures can be effectively performed under local anesthesia with the patient completely awake. Most surgical procedures are performed utilizing Intravenous (IV) Sedation. This technique has been proven safe and comfortable over many years. Short procedures as well as surgeries lasting 3 – 4 hours are routinely performed with IV Sedation in most age groups. When necessary, your primary care physician is consulted to discuss medical issues that could be influenced by anesthesia. Occasionally, general anesthesia is preferred and can be performed in our office suite or in a hospital setting. Additionally, sedative medication can be given prior to arriving for those patients who are particularly anxious.
