PREPARING FOR SURGERY
It is important that you have enough bone and soft tissue at the site of your missing tooth to ensure that the implant and restoration can be adequately supported. A bone or soft-tissue graft may be required prior to proceeding with implant surgery. A consultation including x-rays will help ensure that your surgery is performed accurately and produces excellent results.
UNDERSTANDING THE PROCEDURE
Dr. Guyette will begin your dental implant procedure by administering anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery. He will create an opening in your gums, followed by a precise opening in your jaw to make room for the implant. Once the titanium implant is in place, the incisions will be sutured.. Traditional implants can require three to six months to fuse properly to the bone. If you are receiving teeth-in-a-day or All-on-4 Implants, your smile will usually be fully complete by the end of the appointment.
If the traditional procedure is best for you, you may undergo a second procedure after the initial placement of the implant. During this minor procedure, a special abutment is attached to the implant, which will attach to your restoration and help the gums heal properly around the implant.
Dr. Guyette will monitor the success of your implants during follow-up appointments.
THE TECHNOLOGY WE USE
Dr. Guyette has performed thousands of dental implant procedures, and uses advanced broadcast technology to train other doctors in implant techniques. We implement advanced technology, such as the Cone Beam CT Scan. The Cone Beam CT Scan provides a 3 dimensional image of your upper and lower jaw and is used to determine if bone grafting is needed, the optimal position to place the dental implant and the best type and size of implant to meet your needs.
Implants or Bridges?
When patients are exploring the benefits of dental implants as compared to other restorative treatments such as dental bridges, they should be aware of the many advantages of dental implants. Implants are a more permanent and durable solution to missing teeth. Dental bridges require the grinding down of adjacent teeth, whereas dental implants are designed to treat only the missing teeth. Implants also help you retain bone mass in your jaw, which can recede in the absence of teeth or implants. With a higher success rate and more long-term benefits, we ask our patients to take a close look at dental implants and their advantages.
