18 Feb Medi Spa and the IPL Procedure
Many people think that the only way to reduce wrinkles and look their absolute youngest is to undergo cosmetic surgery. While yes, surgery can work wonders for people who want to look their youngest, there are many other options out there as well. In fact, we have a special Medi Spa at our practice that can work wonders for patients without the use of any invasive surgical procedures.
When you meet with our Scottsdale oral surgeon and cosmetic surgeon, you’ll be able to learn about the Medi Spa in greater detail. For now, we’d like to look at the Medi Spa in basic terms and go over one of the most popular Medi Spa treatments: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial therapy.
What is a Medi Spa, exactly?
Our Medi Spa is a state-of-the-art skin care and skin rejuvenation center that uses the latest in non-surgical aesthetic enhancement techniques. Rather than undergoing full surgery, our Avondale and Scottsdale facial and oral surgeon may recommend one of our many Media Spa treatments to help you look your absolute best.
Best Candidates for Medi Spa Treatment
The best candidates for advanced skin care and aesthetic enhancement at our Medi Spa are people who would like to look their youngest without having to undergo an invasive surgical procedure. These patients should be in generally good health and have realistic expectations about what the Medi Spa treatments involve and what they can achieve.
Let’s now turn our focus away from the Medi Spa in general and zoom in on IPL, one of the more popular Medi Spa procedures we offer.
About Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy
IPL is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation therapy that introduces intense pulses of light to the lower layers of the skin. This helps eliminate skin blemishes on the surface of the skin while encouraging the growth of new collagen as well.
IPL is able to address the following skin problems:
- Fine lines
- Facial veins
- Acne blemishes
- Redness from rosacea
- Sun damage
Is intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy right for me?
A number of factors will be taken into account in order to determine if IPL-Photofacial is ideal for you. In general, good candidates for IPL are people of lighter skin and complexion. Those with tanned or darker skin can sometimes experience changes in their skin pigmentation after an IPL treatment. Women who are pregnant and people taking the acne medication Accutane should not undergo IPL treatment until advised by their skin care professional that it is okay.
The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Procedure
During the IPL procedure, patients are given dark glasses to wear that will protect their eyes from potential exposure to the light. A cold gel is applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. The IPL handpiece is then placed to the patient’s skin to deliver the pulses of light. Patients may experience a slight pinch periodically, similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. The treatment will last anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour.
Other Great Anti-Aging Options
While IPL has proven quite effective for many patients over the years, sometimes this minimally invasive option will not be the best for the patient’s needs. In such cases, Scottsdale facial surgery or other kinds of skin rejuvenation options will be considered. All options can be discussed in greater detail when you stop by for a consultation.
