The Photo-Facial is known as a Complexion Blender, IPL Photo Facial was designed to combat the effects of aging and sun-damaged skin. Intense Pulsed Light can be used to treat brown spots on the face, neck, chest and even the hands of most skin types. It also reduces the flushing and redness of Rosacea by 80% 90%.
Dark spots fade, pore sizes shrink and your skin will look smoother and more even toned. This technology delivers specific dosages of light energy to the targeted tissue, leaving the surrounding tissue intact.
Once delivered, the light energy is absorbed by the damaged tissue, which will darken and then gently exfoliate within 1-2 weeks. Most patients describe the sensation during the treatment to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as energy is delivered. Some patients choose to have a topical anesthetic. After treatment, pain is minimal. Depending on the area treated, a series of 5-6 treatments is needed for optimal results at 4-week intervals.
Not performed on women who may be pregnant.

Am I a candidate for IPL Photo Facial?
If you are dark-skinned, darkly tanned or do not react well to burns you are not a candidate for Intense Pulsed Light Therapy. If you have the ethnic background of being Greek, Italian, Native or African American in your biological family, you are prone to hyper or hypo pigmentation resulting from the procedure. An ideal patient would be of white European descent with elastic, non-oily skin.
If you have Rosacea or lesions such as darkened age spots, sun damage from the intense Arizona sun, broken capillaries, freckles, port wine stains, spider veins, flat birthmarks or hypo-pigmentation you may be a candidate for Intense Pulsed Light Therapy.
If you are an insulin-dependent diabetic, you cannot be treated. Insulin-dependent diabetics run the risk of wound-healing and infection problems. If you are pregnant you will not be treated as a precaution.
What Can I Expect At Your Consultation?
You will meet one of our laser technicians and she along with Dr. Guyette will determine if you are a candidate to receive treatment.
He or she will discuss your health, examine your skin and prior scars, ask you questions regarding your family history (answer them honestly) and explain to you what can and what cannot be successfully treated.
A test spot will be performed and you will be contacted the next day to report any negative reaction such as blistering, hyper- or hypo-pigmentations, rashes, persistent redness, etc.
If all is well you may schedule an appointment and you will be instructed on what to do, and what not to do, before your first full treatment. For instance if you are taking any of the above supplements or medications you will have to discontinue them until a few days after treatment or until instructed otherwise. You will also be instructed not to tan or use self-tanning creams.
Photos will be taken and the technician will advise you on approximately how many treatments, or combination of treatments, will be needed to achieve your desired goal.
How Is IPL Photo Facial Performed?
The treatment area is cleansed of any residual make-up or creams. A cold clear soothing gel will be applied and a glass prism (pyramid) will then be placed over the gel and treatment area. An intense flash of light, or pulse, is flashed through the prism where it is directed at the treatment area.
The initial treatment may not be as aggressive as your following treatments so as not to possibly damage the skin and to determine your skin's tolerance for further intensive treatment.
Ice packs are placed on the treatment area immediately post treatment to rid the skin of heat left in the surrounding tissues.
Treatments are usually performed every 4 weeks and may be suggested in combination with other facial rejuvenation treatments to obtain the desired results.
We very frequently combine Power Peel Microdermabrasion and Laser Genesis Facials as well as hydrating custom facials between IPL Photo Facial treatments to achieve optimal result
Are there any risks with IPL Photo Facial procedures?
Although rare, blistering or slight bleeding is possible as is hypo- or hyper-pigmentation (lightened or darkened areas of skin). If pigmentation problems occur, it may be anywhere from 3 to 12 months before normal skin tone returns. This is especially so with hypo-pigmentation (lack of color). Some patients may experience permanent skin pigmentation changes. Scarring is possible although it too is a rare occurrence.
